Muzaffarnagar: 10-Year-Old Girl Dies by Suicide After Alleged Public Humiliation at School

A 10-year-old girl in Muzaffarnagar died by suicide hours after she was allegedly beaten and publicly humiliated by two teachers over an accusation of stealing ₹10, according to her family's complaint.

The girl, a Class 4 student at a government primary school in Pachenda Kalan village, dreamed of becoming a wrestler.

According to a complaint filed by her family, a teacher accused her of stealing ₹10 from her purse during school hours. Her father, who was away at work, said he was informed of the allegation over the phone and asked the school to handle the matter calmly until he could get there.

Instead, the family alleges, two teachers assaulted the child and publicly reprimanded her in front of her classmates without waiting for her parents to arrive.

The girl returned home visibly distressed and was later found hanging. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Her father said he believes his daughter would still be alive had she not been assaulted and publicly humiliated over the allegation. The family alleges that the theft accusation against their daughter was false and has demanded strict action against those responsible.

Police have registered a case against the two teachers named in the complaint. The education department has opened a separate inquiry into the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and no conclusions have been reached so far.

The case has reignited concern over how children are treated in schools, the toll public humiliation can take on young students, and the urgent need for greater attention to children's mental health and well-being.
