Meta Outage Hits Facebook, Instagram and Threads, Disrupting Uploads and User Access Worldwide

By Md Helal |

Meta's platforms experienced widespread technical issues on Sunday, with thousands of users across multiple countries reporting problems across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Many users reported being unable to upload videos and photos, publish Reels, refresh feeds, or access certain account features.

The disruption hit a wide range of people — everyday users just trying to check their feeds, content creators posting videos, businesses running their pages, and publishers pushing out updates. For many of them, Meta's apps are how they communicate and share content, so the outage cut off a lot more than just casual scrolling.

Users quickly began reporting problems across social media and outage-tracking platforms, sharing screenshots of failed uploads and error messages such as "Something went wrong" and "Account Temporarily Unavailable."

It became clear pretty quickly just how big the problem was. Downdetector, which tracks outages based on user reports, saw a sudden spike in complaints within a short window. And since similar reports were coming in from multiple countries — not tied to any one region, internet provider, or type of device — it was obvious this wasn't some isolated glitch.

As of this writing, Meta hasn't put out an official statement explaining what caused the outage, and there's no timeline yet for when everything will be back to normal.

The exact cause remains unknown. Outages of this nature are commonly associated with server-side failures, backend infrastructure issues, or network-related disruptions. At this time, there is no confirmed evidence suggesting the outage was caused by a cyberattack.

Users experiencing these issues are generally advised not to repeatedly reinstall the apps or modify account settings, as the disruption appears to be affecting Meta's services rather than individual devices.

The outage has been especially rough on digital publishers, brands, and content creators who rely on Meta's platforms to get videos, updates, and live content out to their audiences. With Facebook, Instagram, and Threads all affected at once, many have temporarily shifted their publishing activities to X, Telegram, and YouTube while waiting for Meta's services to return to normal.

This story is still developing, and updates will follow as Meta shares more information or as services return to normal.
